Notice to Families & Staff

To Our Incredible PlayMakers Staff and Families,

Our school thrives on community and connection. The commitment and following of our families and staff are unlike any other Early Childhood centers we’ve seen or been part of. Because of our connection to you and to our community, we have a great responsibility to you in communicating efficiently.

Maker Learning Network, our parent organization, has decided to close PlayMakers Preschool. The last day we will be open is on Friday, June 7th, 2024.

This decision has been enormously difficult to make. The cost of operations outweighs the ability to provide a quality program in the way PlayMakers founders have envisioned since its inception. In addition, our Preschool program has seen a steady decline in enrollment over the past year due to Transitional Kindergarten offering free programming for nearly every four-year-old child. We’ve been quite cautious with tuition rate increases because we are cognizant of the struggle of our families to manage childcare costs. We also see that our staff are not able to be paid adequately for the incredible work they do.

We would love nothing more than to see PlayMakers continue on, and there are some conversations about how PlayMakers could reopen as an independent entity in the Fall. However, we have no guarantees this is possible, therefore the best we can do for our school community is to prepare you all for the school closing with as much notice as possible so that you may start making decisions for your family and children.

We do have recommendations for alternative child care. We have wonderful relationships with these programs and trust them to provide the same level of quality care. Please reach out to Garden Patch, COC Children’s Center, Notre Dame, and Christ Lutheran. We’re happy to connect you with Program Directors and/or work with you to find the next school that will fit your family’s needs the best.

To our incredible staff; being able to be on this journey with you over the past seven years has been truly exceptional. We couldn’t have asked for a better team that has always committed to our child-led and learner-first philosophy so honorably. This school would not carry the memories of wondrous experiences within our learners and families if it were not for the dedication you’ve had. We are happy to support your career journey in every way possible; another part of what PlayMakers has meant to us is being able to see you all grow as Facilitators and in your passion for the field – we promise to always be here for you when you’re needing any guidance or ideas of best practices.

To our families; thank you for trusting us, for fighting for us, for telling your friends and family about us, and for letting us be a part of your family. Thank you for the sense of community you all have established over the years, for participating in all of our school events, for taking care of our teaching staff with your kind words, and really for believing in our program for your child(ren). And ultimately for trusting us and allowing us to be a part of your family for the past 7 years.

We are very open to any conversations, even the tough ones. So, please let us know what questions you have, and how we can help, or just smiles and hugs are welcome too.

Sincerely,
